ONCE UPON A TIME - SEASON TWO
Once Upon a Time is a smartly-crafted reward for fans of light fantasy, with the right mix of cleverness, action and romance.
SOME GIRLS - SEASON ONE
It's more The Inbetweeners than Grange Hill, except these four potty-mouthed, sex-mad teenagers are female. They're also oddly endearing. A welcome return for the sassy south London school comedy that charts the ups and downs of adolescence as negotiated by best mates Viva, Amber, Saz and Holli.
THE FALL - SEASON ONE
The Fall is a top-flight mystery that taps into political tensions in Northern Ireland and the troubling undercurrent of violence against women.
EXTANT - SEASON ONE
This is a homerun for the shows creator Mickey Fisher, and the writing, acting and direction are superb for a summer show (this would also give most fall premiers a run for their money). The first season hits the ground running while at the same time allows good character development.
DEVIOUS MAIDS - SEASON ONE
The dialogue is as arch as Desperate in its heyday.
DEATH IN PARADISE - SEASON TWO
The hit Caribbean crime romp is cunningly scheduled for the winter months, when sniffly viewers daydream of sunnier climes. It’s sheer meteorological escapism. A televisual holiday brochure, with a murder-mystery thrown in for good measure.
CATFISH: THE TV SHOW - SEASON ONE
So, I watched Catfish-the movie, and saw that there was going to be a TV show about that sort of thing. My first thought was "FINALLY, a reality show that's doing people a service"! I watch lots of reality shows, and although they can be entertaining, they don't reflect much on real life. I think it's great that Nev is using his own personal experience to raise awareness on the subject. People need to be more careful about who they talk to and information they share online. It's refreshing to see that even after what happened to him, and all he's seen, Nev is still an incurable optimist, and hasn't become jaded :D!
THE CARRIE DIARIES - SEASON ONE
Carrie Diaries is a show that makes you think you're watching a John Hughes movie. A show that features 80s fashion, music and NYC is really charming. It definitely doesn't look like a SATC prequel, but its fun to watch a teen show with promising nostalgia.
TOO MUCH - SEASON ONE
"Vanilla" version of Survival of the Thickest. There's a fine line between cute and quirky and irritatingly exhausting and Jess (and the series) - sadly - lands the wrong side of it. Don't waste your time.
THE RESIDENCE - SEASON ONE
Binge-watching The Residence over the weekend made me nostalgic for old-school mystery stories led by a charismatic, often eccentric, protagonist.
