Poldark

The story is based on the books, and there was a tv version in the 1970s.

The first two seasons of this latest version were decent as far as dramatic romance stories go and the scenery is beautiful, but the mindless rivalry with the dastardly banker gets boring real fast. The show has Poldark's personality changing several times in the first two seasons like he is a manic depressive. The poor groveling scullery wench that somehow transforms into a self-actualized woman of the day even attending balls and wearing fine dresses is quite a stretch to the imagination, but the actress is very good and she pulls it off fairly well.

The third season gets into religion and it turned me off instantly and I dropped the show like a rotten potato.

Watched one episode to see if it was any good. Its not.

Its not funny at all. How can a comedian make a show and it not be funny? Don't misunderstand... he is trying to be funny, its just *not* funny. It might be negatively funny. I think I felt it suck some of my natural funniness out of my body through my eyeballs. I think the guy is kind of a token indian guy. Like some committee decided that we needed an funny indian guy. The Johnny Bravo of not funny sufficiently ethic looking humor.

Much better than I expected. There are definitely problems with the writing, but it wasn't bad. Good show to marathon, fast forwarding through the annoying scenes. Jason Bateman directs himself and did a better job acting than directing. The teenage girl is annoyingly resistant to nearly everything for no apparent reason. The boy is written weirdly and his personality seems to change from episode to episode.

They somehow miss out on showing much of the beauty of the ozarks area, unless there isn't any. There is a fair amount of action, but the show is largely talk talk talk. There is a fair amount of gratuitous violence and a couple mildly shocking moments with the cartel dude and the hicks. A couple sex scenes but if anything there is a distinct lack of people being intimate.

Best scene is the retard buying the gun. I bet it was realistic for the area, there be hicks in them there hills. Yeah, I said retard. What you gonna do about that Marty Byrde?

Best line: "In fact, the satisfying sound of your lover smacking the pavement is the only thing that gets me to sleep every night."

MAJOR FLAW: The whole concept of how they show the Lead "laundering" money is not money laundering.... meaning it makes absolutely no logical sense... in the show they pretend that faking the books to show that you spent more money then you actually did spend is somehow legitimatizing the money. But that isn't how you launder money... to launder money, you take a business that barely makes any money and you add your illegal money and claim that the business made this extra money. Then you pay taxes on the extra money as if you made it from the business. Ironically, the show had a perfect venue for this with the strip club, which we are shown is failing at the beginning of the season. But even after the Lead takes ownership of the club, he decides not to use it and instead focuses entirely on the resort and pretending that spending money is the money laundering. When the white trash woman makes the club a success, the Lead should have been mad, because that means there is no room to add the illegal money into the mix and launder it, but instead, the Lead is happy about it and tells her she is doing a good job, and to keep it up. Either the writer is an idiot, or they somehow thought that showing the real process of money laundering was a problem. But they have no issue showing multiple deaths or foot mutilations... so, I think the former is more likely.

UPDATE: Season 2 is waaaay better than season 1. I highly recommend it. Looking forward to season 3.

I was a huge fan of the original 9 seasons. This tenth mini season was fun but 3 out of the 6 episodes were lame. The leads are both old now of course, and its more like the Z-Files. The action is slow, the dialog is slow. Come on Gramps, its time to have dinner, its 4PM.

There is only one great episode in season 10, you will know which one when you see it. Hint: Its a Bug Hunt episode.

I'm still very happy they are reprising the roles. They are filming season 11 as I type. Another 8 to 10 episodes on the way. WEEEEEE. Or weee.

Season 11 has defintely been better than season 10 so far, as you would think, its taken the team a while to get back into their stride. Its feeling more and more like the old show.

Friends From College

The story (at least in the first two episodes I struggled to watch) focuses largely on Keegan-Michael Key's character. Its not funny. It *is* annoying though. His character is a whining 30-something that has not achieved much in his writing career and is largely living off his wife. The ongoing affair with one of his friends from college who is part of the old gang is down right stupid. The dead bunny swap out thing is right out of the Three's-Company inane plot playbook. I have dropped it and suggest you do not pick it up.

I watched the 1st season, decided to drop it during the second seasons and watched a couple episodes of season 3 to see if I had made a mistake... I hadn't. The first season is definitely the best of the first three. I heard season 4 might have made a comeback but I didn't want to risk it.

The main character has a British kind of sensibility; in other words he is boring, indecisive and maladapted. It was ok for a season as they were starting the company and that was kind of fun, but season 2 was bad and season 3 was just horrible. For season 3, they brought in an antagonist character that was like an older more boring version of the lead character. I couldn't stand the scenes with the two of them together. It was like two autistic children mumbling to themselves in a padded room.

It was horrible and I have blocked it from my memory. The worst 1 minute of my life.

Its a decent show with a very interesting unique premise. The reason I gave it only 3 stars is that it lacks any explanation of the egg-thing and the show starts going off the rails in the second season when basically magic can happen at any time with people magically transported to other places and times.

Its a Stephen King story, and it suffers from what a lot of his stories suffer from... a lack of reality in otherwise realistic circumstances, and people going murderously insane for no apparent reason.

1st episode only... its every "the asteroid is going to destroy earth and we need to lie to the people and secretly save the world movie" made into a tv show. With the ever so slight twist that a fake elon musk is going to save the world cuz he is oooh so charismatic, super smart and wait for it... has a secret rocket technology. Yawn. Production values are ok, but its annoyingly predictable and I can not imagine it is going to get better.

The Finder

This was a fun little show. I felt it could have gone at least another season. It is basically a mystery show and the Finder has to solve the problem by solving the mystery and finding things. Some time after the canceling, the co-star died of a heart attack.

SPOILER
A wonderful scene in the first episode was when they found John Fogerty's special guitar, and John plays an AWESOME live version of Fortunate Son on the show. I found the show version of the song and have the mp3. Rocking it right now. :D
