THE GENTLEMEN - SEASON ONE
The Gentlemen proves Ritchie hasn’t lost his step when it comes to buffoonish gangsters, and in fact, he might be better at it than ever.
MR. & MRS. SMITH - SEASON ONE
Glover and Erskine are not Jolie and Pitt, and thank goodness for that. They are a new kind of pairing for a new generation, one that doesn’t need their heroes to be slick. Just as in the film, mundane everyday aspects of marriage are heightened by both John and Jane’s unfamiliarity with each other and their mutual professional obligations, which lead to some charming and thoroughly entertaining juxtapositions.
When Donald Glover flexes his genius muscle along with his team of cinematic savants, things get really interesting, and fast.
CHAMPION - SEASON ONE
Courtesy of it’s original soundtrack, sibling rivalry never sounded this good. It feels like an authentic slice of south London life, with Carty-Williams skillfully weaving portraits of the black community and of the cutthroat music industry.
PENANCE - SEASON ONE
It's a shame because this slow-burn story could've been developed really well; given a better production team... or maybe it's because the actors had forgotten to act.
CAROL & THE END OF THE WORLD - SEASON ONE
It’s the small, often unspoken moments of detail that make this wonderful cartoon feel far more three-dimensional than many live-action shows.
ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE - SEASON ONE
Netflix series still manages to nails its emotions, and a lot of that is due to the lead performance. The true allure of the story lies in the powerful words shared across the airwaves, offering hope and solace in a tumultuous time.
FROM SCRATCH - SEASON ONE
Fundamentally an expensive, well-acted, nicely written, very long Lifetime/Hallmark movie, what the Hollywood trades used to call a “weepie.”
BLACK KNIGHT - SEASON ONE
The world could be brutal and aimless... But, boredom is unforgivable. And the messenger, except for some entertaining sequences and appealing images, is a flat character who wanders in a monotonous series.
EVERYTHING SUCKS! - SEASON ONE
I always appreciate a good ragamuffin group growing together but I think the last half of the season stalled out a little bit by spending time bonding the other characters. It has some good ideas, but it is diluted in a package that does not do the show justice.
ENDLESS NIGHT - SEASON ONE
If you are asking the golden question: Is Endless Night worth watching? It is a steady 'no' from me.. unless you enjoy lackluster pacing and disenchating stories.
