ONE PUNCH MAN - SEASON ONE
Presents comically exaggerated villains, idiotic and incompetent heroes, and an accidentally powerful protagonist whose thriftiness and deadpan humor make him (and this show) truly one of a kind.
LOVE, VICTOR - SEASON ONE
Although groundbreaking in and of itself in many ways, Victor's story is most special because of how normally the show treats it and its charismatic and adorable title character. There's just so much here to love.
OUTER BANKS - SEASON ONE
If everything about this show was just a little bit more engaging, or funnier, or more absurd, it would be actually fun to watch, but most of it is like "Bloodline" with training wheels, "Scooby Doo" with swearing. That said, it is actually very binge-able, mostly due to the constantly evolving plot... and COVID. Mostly COVID.
NEVER HAVE I EVER - SEASON ONE
It's really a bittersweet look at grief, family, culture, and friendship, wrapped in the shiny foil of a teen rom-com.
THE NEST - SEASON ONE
It would be interesting if The Nest was a story of how rich people’s suspicion of the working classes causes them to tear each other apart... But at the moment, it feels as though it might be another morality tale about why not to trust someone from a council estate.
THE SINNER - SEASON ONE
My beef is that no matter how watchable it is -- and it is: slickly shot, nicely edgy ambient score, all manner of unexpected twists and turns -- you do feel a bit sullied and exploited afterwards.
HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER (HTGAWM) - Season Five
Annalise is, and will always be, THAT girl... Though we don't have the answers yet, one thing we can definitely count on is a bloody good season.
END OF THE F**KING WORLD - SEASON ONE
With a certain 'indie' and black comedy tone and a groundbreaking premise, this British series follows in eight brief chapters the odyssey of two young people and their path of personal discovery.
NOUGHTS AND CROSSES - SEASON ONE
This is a series that asks important questions of its white audience, chief among them: what if it was you?
This race-reversal drama will induce hernias in right-wing commentators. Blackman’s story carries a potent message about representation and power structures, so it’s a shame that the dramatised version doesn’t always trust viewers to comprehend it.
OMNISCIENT - SEASON ONE
Omniscient is a well written, compelling and easy to binge show. Feels like a natural extension to George Orwell’s 1984, but there’s a charm and personality here that’s evident and hard to deny. Much like 3%, there’s something very unique here and the potential for a compelling second season is a very promising prospect.
