THE ORDER - SEASON ONE
The show has its tongue planted firmly in cheek, and its sense of humor is a frequent source of amusement. Between the laughs is a fun, twisty narrative and a game cast to tie it all together.
THE MIST - SEASON ONE
The Mist could be a satisfyingly complex chiller, scaring viewers not just with unexpected jumps and amped-up creepy crawlies, but with the more human monsters who are all trapped together inside, waiting out the weather.
Given the understandably low budget, it would have been smarter to play with the unknown enemy in the mist instead of making such a literal horror show.
Average - at best.
RUSSIAN DOLL - SEASON ONE
There are a whole lot of ideas here -- a few thrown against the wall to see if they'll stick -- but the real pleasure of this four-hour head trip are the performances. Lyonne is outstanding.
PEAKY BLINDERS - SEASON ONE
Peaky Blinders might just be worth the investment of a few stray hours. It's hardly revolutionary, but, like the industrial laborers in its 1919 Birmingham, England, setting, it gets the job done.
NAKED ATTRACTION - SEASON ONE
Naked Attraction doesn’t beat around the bush, so to speak, so neither will I... The show’s mantra is thus: “We like to start where a good date ends… naked.” Call me a prude, but if a good date ends with a leering stranger critiquing your fanny on national television, then all hope for the human race is well and truly lost. Naked Attraction to give one person all the choosing power? Like picking a cut of meat at the butcher’s? It just doesn’t work.
Oh, and one last thing: it’s very difficult to watch it and eat at the same time, which I resent.
THE RAP GAME UK - SEASON ONE
Hip-hop has long offered a route out of difficult situations and The Rap Game UK is no different. Many of the seven wannabe stars are from unlikely hip-hop hotbeds such as Scunthorpe and Aberdeen. It is about finally making space for a credible British hip-hop show that truly understands that world, as well as its audience.
GOGGLEBOX - SEASON TWELVE
In just five years, Gogglebox has become a British classic. Every Monday we are blessed with a joyous hour of gentle comedy and unfiltered domestic micro-drama.
THE I-LAND - SEASON ONE
Over the course of its seven-episodes, The I-Land toggles the line between ridiculous parody and laughable drama.
EVE - SEASON THREE
Grammy Award-winning hip-hop sensation Eve starred in "Eve" as Shelly, a beautiful and intelligent woman of the new generation trying to navigate the exhilarating world of 21st century love, romance and career. Strong and confident, Shelly brought a fresh attitude to the male/female equation and coolly expected to receive just as much as she gives.
THE SOCIETY - SEASON ONE
The various frameworks and safety nets that once kept these All-American teens from spiralling out of control have abandoned them, or set them free, depending on which character you focus on, and it makes for compulsive viewing. The Society brings a fresh new take to an old premise. And although the show as a whole suffers towards the end of the season, it eventually finds its feet. The cast are good, and frequently prove they are the main attraction for the ongoing plot. Despite the interesting mystery and narrative being shunned later in the show, the set-up is extremely well done, and incites a lot of intrigue - despite how long it takes for anything to happen with it.
