SURVIVAL OF THE THICKEST - SEASON ONE
After stealing scenes in romcoms like Marry Me and Always Be My Maybe, Buteau proves a charismatic romantic lead in her own right. She brings her signature wit and humor to the series, making us laugh while also highlighting the very real challenges fat and Black women face in the dating and fashion worlds.
THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER - SEASON ONE
House of Usher, despite moments of intrigue, seems to lack the most central element of all Poe’s works: Passion.
THE SANDMAN - SEASON ONE
The first season of The Sandman is a stunning adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed graphic novel series that faithfully brings to life its multitude of eccentric characters & the first few captivating storylines.
One of the most thorough, sensitive portraits I’ve seen of an artist who has by now been eulogized for longer than he was alive—and of the remarkable woman who created him.
It's hardly the kind of feelgood, blemish-free music documentary that many viewers may expect; instead, it is a sharply defined portrait of two revolutionaries and their still-impactful lives.
RED ROSE - SEASON ONE
Red Rose has created anxiety that is almost overpowering. It’s a difficult show because you can’t settle into it, with the characters and the subject matter leaving me permanently on edge.
The most frightening function Red Rose performs is reminding us that we’re too far gone to stop an attack like this.
THE SNOW GIRL - SEASON ONE
The biggest transformation should be the kidnapped girl, but we don't even see how the transformation takes place, just that it did... 6 years later. So it's missing a lot of plot devices that could've made Snow Girl a whole lot more exciting as a crime series.
THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT - SEASON ONE
When you start dreaming about chess after watching a single episode, you'll know you're hooked.
WITNESS NUMBER 3 - SEASON ONE
After the main character goes to the police after witnessing somethign horrific and it becomes apparent that dark forces are at play, aiming to ensure her silence in a plot that has viewers 'hooked' across the four eps.
It leaves you wondering how far you would go to do the right thing.
DARK MONEY - SEASON ONE
It still speaks eloquently about the abuse of children by the powerful, how persistent the phenomenon is and how uneven the balance of power between abuser and abused is – and will probably always be, given that so much of it is about money. We care sufficiently about the family, and particularly Isaac (played with fine understatement by Fincham) and already dislike Starr so much that we want to see that justice done – but not at the cost of the destruction of their family life.
A NEARLY NORMAL FAMILY - SEASON ONE
Look, it’s not winning any awards. But truthfully it doesn’t need to, since this is exactly the kind of weekend binge it’s claiming to be and has no aspirations of being anything else.
