Birds of Prey

liked this show. It's too bad it didn't last very long. I liked the matrix-like action sequences, the dialogue, the twists and turns that each episode took. It's a bummer that the last episode was such a cliffhanger. The show has good characters with plans to develop them, a coherent back story, fun plots, background characters who are worth hearing about, well choreographed fight scenes, and excellent special effects. A fun show peopled with some quirky and interesting characters. It had a strong plot and good acting. The writing could have been better. While not without its flaws, the show had good action and good plots for the medium. Enjoyable acting, fast pace, and effects consistent with tv action/fantasy. This series really had a lot going for it. It wasn't given enough time to develop and realize it potential. The shots through the city were great. The closing one with Oracle and Huntress on the rooftop, and the bat flying by the moon was so cool. This is the type of series you either love at first viewing or hate. You either accept the changes or don't. The show was creative and interesting. The action scenes were great as was the directing and the music selections for each episode.

Andromeda

When I started watching Andromeda I was blown away. Andromeda's premise was interesting. A great universe, with great ideas, both in technology and philosophy. This show had interesting concepts and good characters. Andromeda is an entertaining show with solid acting, special f/x are top notch (and they stay that way through all seasons). A great mix of action, sci-fi and comedy. Each individual character is far from perfect. Each of them has flaws and weaknesses, each one of them left someone behind and each character has a story to tell. They all come from a different culture and race, they all have secrets to hide, making them all intriguing and fun to know. What is truly tragic about Andromeda is that it is a show that never realized its full potential. Original writer brought life to intricate plot-lines and vibrant characters functioning in a realized Universe. Quality slipped noticeably when he was let go. Andromeda's best seasons were 1 and 2. In season 3, the series lost its aim but was still watchable. In season 4 things foundered and it was not the Andromeda of before. Season 5 became a joke.

I haven't really read any books of Agatha Christie. I found this series so enjoyable. The mysteries are generally quite intriguing. I always try to figure them out before the big reveal with not much success. I have to say that Geraldine McEwan for me is the consummate Miss Marple, managing to combine the ideas of sweet little old lady, knitting pink woollies for babies, with intelligence, humor and determination. I didn't care for Julia McKenzie's portrayal. Ms. Marple is such an unique and authentic character. Glorious scenery throughout, I loved the house that was used as Miss Marple's residence, such a pretty place. The period detail was spot on so many times, in terms of outfits and styling they nailed it. The acting throughout the series was excellent, it was the writers and producers that made the episodes great or poor. This show is one of the first British TV series that I watched.

Legend of the Seeker

I never read the books but was interested in the premise. The plot is wonderful, and the world is unique. Medieval type fantasy series with good characters and stunning locations. This show's cinematography coupled with New Zealand's breathtaking topography makes for a very pretty show. it is charming and captivating to watch. I like all the main cast. Legend of the Seeker has some wonderful stunt work and detailed action. The slow-mos are fantastic; it is great to see the detail and be able to understand the complexity of choreography instead of it being hidden under choppy editing. I find the action sequences gripping. They have put a lot of effort into stylizing the fights. The camera work and ambiance is smooth and satisfying for the fantasy genre of swordplay, magic and high adventure on an epic scale. Love the detail in the costuming and sets. Legend of the Seeker is action packed, there is romance, magic, stunning locations, great cast and movie quality special effects. It was well written and the cast worked really well together! It is fun and lovable and I was so sad when it ended. It's such a shame we were left in such a heartbreaking suspense.

Journeyman

I found it very quickly became additive to watch. The different characters story lines have got very good twist and turns in the episodes, making me trying to guess what was going to happen next. As I watched each episode, I found that actions happening made me think back to other episodes and then saw the connections to that action. Hats of to the writers as they continue to write great story lines, and create edge of the seat watching. Journeyman walked a fine line between being a time travelling sci-fi show, and being a drama that portrayed the difficulties in maintaining a normal family life in the face of a troublesome, hectic 'job'. The potential of Journeyman is so rich and dense that the first season only explores an infinitesimal proportion of it. That's what differs from many shows, which stand out on their first episodes, but then keep on somewhat repeat themselves. Here, the multiple layers (Livia's point of view, scientific point of view, time travel paradoxes) add up to a totally unpredictable show, at the same time totally down-to-earth and philosophically challenged. And I love the fact that it never relies on the Sci-Fi usual excuses to make the audience believe in what's going on. Journeyman is one of those shows which was slow to start but did eventually find its feet and deliver an interesting idea that posed many possible stories to explore. As it was, NBC decided to cut short the endless possibilities that the show never had the chance to portray by cancelling it after the first season. It certainly deserved more than one season to prove itself and to build a fan base.

ALF

ALF was a great show for family entertainment value, it was clean and was very original at the time with a main character who was a wise cracking alien, the cast was all really good and it was actually pretty funny most of the time. The show was quite unique in the fact that it combined the silliness of the Muppet's and the usual kitsch of prime time sitcoms. It's funny, it's well written, and with the use of a puppet and stage performance making it unique in sitcoms. ALF even had some heartfelt moments. Alf's lines throughout this shows generally made you laugh. Not to mention roll your eyes now and again. The humor was never vulgar, but often funny, a balance that many shows in this format often fail to strike. Better it had a brief but successful run rather than drag itself out. The way that the series ended was extremely disappointing.

The A-Team

What constitutes a really, really good TV show? I think it has to have good characters, good stories, action, not be afraid to be totally crazy and show the impossible. The A-Team had it all. The show succeeds primarily on the personalities of the cast. The plots and production values are deliberately on a budget; it is the personality of the characters that drives the show and makes it work. It was fun, imaginative and entertaining. This show was a modern story of standing up for people that could not stand for themselves. The A-Team was a feel-good, get justice, type of show that people seemed to gravitate to in the 1980's. It was also one of the first shows that brought the subject of the Vietnam War into contemporary life and the popular culture of the time. Mostly, this show was fun! It made you feel good and it reminded you that there are still people out there that want to do right for others instead of just doing for themselves. It also made many people want to step up and be part of the solution, instead of being a part of the problem. This show's mixture of action and comedy still holds up as an entertaining concoction. It was just one of the many shows which made the 80's great. It had likable heroes, comedy, action and good music.

Veronica's Closet

Veronica's Closet is an entertaining, funny show. This show was full of humor and great intelligence. The supporting cast were pretty good. The first season was brilliant - it was laugh-out-loud funny, and it satirized the fashion industry and all its air-head models so...beautifully. The second season was okay. The third season was not very good. It's such a shame when networks decide that there's something wrong with their hit shows. "Veronica's Closet" is a perfect example. Instead of trying to keep the chemistry that made the show hysterical in the first season, they decided to tinker with it, and cause its untimely death. The constant addition of cast members messed with the chemistry of the show.

Jack and Jill

I absolutely LOVED this show. The main leads were incredible together and had so much chemistry The supporting cast were well cast. The show had sharp, witty writing and terrific direction. The story pulls you in each week and gives you just enough to leave you pining for more. This show is not only romantic and funny, but so cute & interesting. It was funny, serious, realistic yet almost like a fairy tale sometimes. Jack & Jill had well written dialogues. I was very sad when I found out it was cancelled. This was one of the shows that were cancelled without any explanation. The ending was a shame, what type of cliffhanger was that, if only we had got another season.

Suddenly Susan

This show and its ensemble of characters was one of the funniest and creative shows on television. The comedy's center was the workplace with each character finding his/her own niche, completely separate and different from the others. The show is well-grouped with this cast of zany characters working at a fictional San Francisco newspaper. The actors were talented, funny people who made their characters come alive. Suddenly Susan was funny and creative. Although this is not one of the best television shows ever created, I have to say that the writers are very good. The way that they handled the tragic death of actor David Strickland was excellent. And I have to praise the stars for their performances in that episode. The death of a much loved actor affected the quality of the show adversely.
