SMALL AXE - SEASON ONE

Out of all episodes, it's Mangrove that will remain unforgettable. That's to actor Shaun Parkes' credit. The role, the plot, everything that happens... That he could hold everything that happens on his face, without saying a word, at the end of this film, was incredible.

LUPIN - SEASON ONE

The series also doesn't waste a single minute, packing each and every moment full of suspense. Put all of that together, and it's an early front-runner to steal a spot as one of the best shows of the year.

SAVE ME - SEASON ONE

It's absorbing because it's a police procedural that isn't a police procedural. Save Me is simply an emotional tale of humanity.

THE DECEIVED - SEASON ONE

The Deceived is surprisingly manages to touch on concerns about emotionally abusive relationships, power dynamics, and coercion whilst also remaining in the horror category.

FLEABAG - SEASON TWO

If Fleabag begins as a collection of single-girl moments, patience through a few episodes reveals a fuller, sadder, more multidimensional story anchored by Waller-Bridge's bracing honesty.

KILLING EVE - SEASON THREE

Killing Eve seems to slingshot from one shocking moment to the next, but in between those moments, the series listlessly coasts, as though waiting for the next big moment to right the ship. The way Villanelle feels about her job is exactly the way I feel about Killing Eve. It started out so strong but now; I want out. I've had enough. It's bullsh*t.

SEX/LIFE - SEASON ONE

For a show about the basic instincts, it's unusually removed from anything recognizably human. Sex/Life has no idea what kind of message it wants to send.

SHADOW AND BONE - SEASON ONE

Without comparing to the books... because, by now, we all know the books are way better than the television/ film adaptations. I think Shadow and Bon transcends familiarity thanks to the commitment of a pitch-perfect cast, well-stylized fight sequences, and intentional character development that makes these relationships feel nuanced and history-laden.

MARCELLA - SEASON TWO

Season One was so promising. Now, with Season Two, I'm trying to recall if there was a single moment that wasn't parodically throw-yourself-under-a-bus hilarious.

QUICKSAND - SEASON ONE

Quicksand captures the depth of some of the most devastating issues that regularly take place in our society: school shootings, mental illness, domestic abuse, sexual violence. Issues of this nature are not commonly broached in American entertainment, as Hollywood wants an audience to leave a film or series feeling happy but not every story has a happy ending.
